The Vagaries of "Mustard Seed Garden" - Episode III
The words and illustration which appeared in the classical Chinese literature are full of imagination and poetic realm. The
fusion of nature and humanities, always make me imagine a tranquil scene.
“Mustard Seed Garden Painting Manual” is the collection of the Qing Dynasty Chinese paintings which edited by Shen Xinyou, the named “Mustard Seed Garden”, is the name of his father-in-law Li Yu’s villa.
The book collected many paintings as a sample, every section has word description. It’s a model for the people who
learn and paint Chinese paintings, and even representative. It’s well-known to every family and household.
Over the years, I read "Mustard Seed Garden Painting Manual" made a lot of imagination. Today I liberalized the traditional format and integrated with a variety of different media, naturally become the new scene, also harmonious.
I try to integrated photography; Chinese ink and Western painting medium, to reshape these elements, like all things in nature become one.
It is my tribute to "Mustard Seed Garden Painting Manual".

中國古典書籍裡面的字語和清淡雋永的附圖,以人、自然的簡約為本,充滿想像及詩意的境界。
“芥子園畫傳”為清朝的水墨畫集著,由沈心友等人主編,以其岳父劇作家李漁的別墅”芥子園”為名。結集了多幅水墨畫為範例,為中國水墨畫的臨摹範本,甚具代表性。
書中概括出以上範,以重點方式,作符號性表述,將山石、樹、人物、植物、動物等元素作象徵闡述,各部關係相連,並以不同畫式構成。
多年來,我閱讀“芥子園畫傳” 時引發了很多想像。我試以今日的眼光,放開了【畫傳】傳統的形式化懷抱,融合多種不同媒材,不去定性用甚麼媒材去創作作品時,自然就成為新的景象,觀賞作品亦會變得不再拘謹。只要將每種媒材也放下一點,彼此之間便能夠協調地結合。
我嘗試以攝影、中國水墨和西方繪畫等多媒介的融合,去重塑這些元素,就像自然界天地萬物融為一體,帶出一些想像,亦是我對本書的致敬。
